When I first got into the financial planning business more than 13 years ago, I thought my job was about anticipating markets movements and picking the next winning investments for my clients.
But over the years, I learned two things:
- Trying to predict the future with any degree of consistency is next to impossible.
- People have far bigger problems they need help with and I can help with these problems without having to predict the future.
In this video, I talk about THREE COMMON MISTAKES people make when it comes to investing and how to avoid them.
No need for prophets
Good financial planners will tell you they have no idea where the financial markets are headed. You can have an opinion, sure. But they know that’s the sort of conversation best held at the pub, not in the context of planning a client’s future. They do not focus on market prophecies, but on possibilities. From there, they work back to each client’s circumstances.
